(Worthy News) – President Donald Trump announced Sunday that the United States will begin guiding commercial ships out of the Strait of Hormuz, where global shipping has been effectively trapped amid the ongoing conflict between the U.S. and Iran.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump said multiple nations had appealed to Washington for help in freeing vessels stuck in the critical chokepoint, which normally handles roughly 20% of the world’s oil supply. He said the U.S. would assist in ensuring ships can safely transit the waterway and resume global commerce.

The initiative, dubbed “Project Freedom,” is set to begin Monday morning Middle East time. According to a senior U.S. official, the plan involves coordination between governments, insurers, and shipping organizations to facilitate safe passage — though it does not currently include direct U.S. Navy escorts.

Tensions in the Strait have escalated sharply after Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps reportedly deployed naval mines, significantly increasing risks to commercial vessels. The development has heightened concerns across global markets and energy sectors already shaken by the war.

President Trump warned that any interference with the operation would be met decisively. “If they interfere, it will have to be dealt with forcefully,” he said, underscoring the seriousness of the mission.
