U.S. Warships Enforce Iran Blockade as Trump Administration Tightens ‘Economic Fury’ Campaign

Key Facts

  • More than 20 U.S. warships are enforcing a naval blockade against Iran under "Operation Economic Fury," with 61 commercial vessels redirected and the Iranian economy described as in free fall.
  • Iran still possesses approximately 440 kilograms of uranium enriched to 60% purity — enough for up to 10 nuclear bombs — with large stockpiles believed buried at the bombed Isfahan nuclear site.
  • As international pressure mounts, Iran's regime has executed 190 people in 2026 — a stark reminder that the battle for freedom and dignity inside Iran is as urgent as the geopolitical standoff beyond its borders.

(Worthy News) – The United States has deployed more than 20 warships to enforce a sweeping naval blockade against the Islamic Republic of Iran, in President Donald Trump’s campaign to strip Tehran of the resources it uses to fund terrorism, destabilize the Middle East, and pursue nuclear weapons.

U.S. Central Command said Sunday that American forces have redirected 61 commercial vessels and disabled four others since the operation began April 13. The blockade targets vessels entering or leaving Iranian ports in the Arabian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most critical energy corridors.

The operation, formally known as “Operation Economic Fury,” is designed to choke off Iran’s oil exports and commercial shipping while enforcing sanctions and seizing foreign assets linked to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, the regime’s powerful military and terror-financing arm.

U.S. Energy Secretary Chris Wright said Sunday that the pressure campaign is already inflicting serious damage on Tehran’s economy, arguing that Iran is losing its main export revenues while American authorities move against money held abroad by corrupt IRGC leaders.

“The economic pressure on Iran right now is increasing dramatically,” Wright told CBS News’ “Face the Nation with Margaret Brennan.” “Not only is their government in the country losing their main export revenues because of our blockade, but also, the Economic Fury operation that we launched, starting just a few weeks ago, is collecting the monies of the corrupt IRGC leaders that they’ve squirreled away abroad.”

U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Mike Waltz delivered an equally stark assessment during an appearance on “Fox News Sunday,” saying the operation is reshaping the regional balance against Tehran.

“Their currency is in free fall, their foreign currency reserves are near-zero,” Waltz said, adding that Gulf Arab allies are now standing with Washington “diplomatically, economically, and militarily.”

Waltz said Iran’s conduct has exposed the regime before the world and helped produce a rare alignment among U.S. partners in the region.

“Iran has now showed its true colors,” Waltz said. “We’re seeing the world align with us.”

Still, Waltz emphasized that Trump is not closing the door to talks, saying the president “is giving diplomacy a chance backed by our great U.S. military.”

Nuclear Stockpile Remains Under Watch

The blockade comes as Washington and its allies continue to monitor Iran’s nuclear program after last year’s U.S. strikes on Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan. The June 22, 2025, operation, known as “Operation Midnight Hammer,” targeted three key Iranian nuclear sites and caused severe damage, according to U.S. officials.

Iran is believed to retain roughly 440 kilograms, or 970 pounds, of uranium enriched to 60% purity. That level is below weapons-grade enrichment of 90%, but close enough to raise grave concern because it can be further enriched in a relatively short technical process. The stockpile is theoretically enough to produce material for multiple nuclear weapons if enriched further.

International Atomic Energy Agency Director General Rafael Grossi has said much of Iran’s highly enriched uranium is likely still located at the Isfahan nuclear complex, including a large quantity believed to be stored in underground tunnels.

Trump said Sunday on “Full Measure with Sharyl Attkisson” that the United States is closely watching the site and will eventually recover the material.

“We’ll get that at some point,” Trump said. “We have it surveilled.”

Crediting U.S. Space Force capabilities, Trump warned that any Iranian attempt to move or access the stockpile would be detected.

“If anybody got near the place, we will know about it — and we’ll blow them up,” he said.

The U.S. Space Force, created in 2019 under the Department of the Air Force, operates and defends critical American and allied space-based systems, including GPS, satellite communications, missile warning networks, and surveillance capabilities.

Tehran Tightens Its Grip at Home

As external pressure mounts, Iran’s rulers are intensifying repression at home. The judiciary-linked Mizan news agency reported that authorities executed 29-year-old Erfan Shakourzadeh after convicting him of spying for the United States and Israel.

Earlier this month, Iranian authorities executed three men accused of involvement in anti-government protests that shook the country in December and January. According to the Oslo-based group Iran Human Rights, the Islamic Republic has executed 190 people so far this year.

The executions underscore the character of a regime facing pressure from without and unrest from within. While Tehran continues to project defiance, the growing weight of sanctions, naval enforcement, regional isolation, and domestic discontent is tightening around the regime.

For believers watching these events unfold, the hour calls for prayer: for the oppressed people of Iran, for wisdom among national leaders, and for the peace of Jerusalem.
