Trump Cancels Planned Iran Strikes, Says Deal to End Conflict Nears Signing

(Worthy News) – President Donald Trump abruptly canceled planned U.S. strikes against Iran on Thursday, saying a multinational agreement to end the conflict had been approved by top Iranian leadership and was awaiting final documents and a formal signing.

“Based on the fact that discussions with the Islamic Republic of Iran have been brought to the highest level of Iranian leadership and approved, I have, as President of the United States of America, cancelled the scheduled strikes and bombings against Iran this evening,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

The announcement marked a dramatic reversal from earlier in the day, when Trump warned that the United States would hit Iran “VERY HARD TONIGHT” and raised the possibility of seizing Kharg Island, Iran’s key Persian Gulf oil export terminal.

Trump said the emerging deal had been approved “in both concept and great detail” by the United States, Israel, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Turkey, Pakistan, Bahrain, Kuwait, Jordan, Egypt, and others. He said the U.S. naval blockade would remain in place until the agreement is finalized.

“We just made a great settlement of the war with Iran,” Trump told reporters in the Oval Office, adding that the deal would likely be signed in Europe in the coming days.

Trump said the agreement would ensure that “Iran will never have a nuclear weapon,” though he did not immediately provide details on the enforcement mechanism. He also said the Strait of Hormuz would reopen once the deal is signed, a move that could ease pressure on global oil markets.

The reported breakthrough followed days of escalating tensions, including two consecutive nights of U.S. strikes on Iranian military targets and retaliatory Iranian attacks on U.S. military installations in the Gulf region.

Qatari and Pakistani officials have been mediating indirect talks between Washington and Tehran, with negotiations reportedly focused on frozen Iranian assets, reopening the Strait of Hormuz, and a framework for nuclear talks during a proposed ceasefire period.

Iran had not immediately confirmed Trump’s announcement, and Iranian state-linked media reported that Tehran had not approved an initial U.S. memorandum of understanding.

Still, Trump expressed confidence that the deal was close, saying the documents were in “pretty final shape.”

If finalized, the agreement would mark the most significant diplomatic breakthrough since the conflict began, while allowing Trump to keep military pressure on Tehran through the continued blockade until the terms are formally signed.
