Obama Sends 275 U.S. Troops to Protect Embassy


BAGHDAD, IRAQ (Worthy News)– Up to 275 U.S. military troops were being deployed to Iraq to Iraq to provide support and security to U.S. personnel and the embassy in Baghdad, President Barack Obama informed Congress on Monday.

“This force is deploying for the purpose of protecting U.S. citizens and property, if necessary, and is equipped for combat,” the president said in a letter to Congressional leaders.

“This force will remain in Iraq until the security situation becomes such that it is no longer needed.”

The State Department said the embassy remains open in Baghdad, and will continue to engage Iraqi leaders supporting them as they “strengthen Iraq’s constitutional process and defend themselves from imminent threats.”
