Nuclear Talks with Iran Likely to be Extended Past July 20


VIENNA (Worthy News)– Diplomats said a deal with Iran concerning its nuclear program will not be completed by the July 20, the six-month interim deadline, and that “significant gaps” remain.

Facing stubborn disputes on the terms of a deal, Iran and six world powers have tentatively decided to adjourn their nuclear talks two days early but plan to extend them past their planned July 20 end date, diplomats said Wednesday.

Both sides had been prepared to talk until Sunday, the informal deadline for the negotiations. But two diplomats have told The Associated Press the talks will probably wind down Friday, because the differences won’t be bridged by Sunday.

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif has suggested that talks on Iran’s nuclear programme could be extended beyond a 20 July deadline.

After two days of talks in Vienna, he said progress had been made and “more time may help”.
