Congressional Democrats demand Trump’s tax returns
(Worthy News) – Richard Neal, the Democratic chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, submitted his long-awaited request for President Trump’s tax returns on Wednesday.
The Massachusetts representative requested six years’ worth of Trump’s personal and business tax returns, setting up a potential major legal conflict with the administration. Democrats believe the tax information would give them insight into any potential ethical or legal conflicts of interest Trump may have.
“Congress, as a co-equal branch of government, has a duty to conduct oversight of departments and officials,” Neal wrote in the letter to IRS Commissioner Charles Rettig. “The Ways and Means Committee in particular has a responsibility to conduct oversight of our voluntary Federal tax system and determine how Americans – including those elected to our highest office – are complying with those laws.” [ Source: Washington Examiner (Read More…) ]
