(Worthy News) – Iran on Tuesday declared its intention to further disrupt oil traffic in the Strait of Hormuz, announcing a naval drill to take place with Russia later this year in the disputed waterway.

Speaking at the Iranian foreign ministry, President Hassan Rouhani also addressed the British seizure last month of an Iranian oil tanker near Gibraltar, which the Iranians, along with Spanish foreign minister Josep Borell, at the time attributed to a US directive.

“A strait for a strait. It can’t be that the Strait of Hormuz is free for you and the Strait of Gibraltar is not free for us,” Rouhani said. “Peace for peace and oil for oil. You cannot say that you won’t allow our oil to be exported.”

The US withdrew from the Iranian nuclear accord in May of last year after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu made President Trump privy to a trove of documents stolen by the Mossad from an Iranian nuclear depot in February 2018, which showed the Iranians had no intention of ending their nuclear program.

As a response to the crushing US sanctions on Iranian oil exports that followed, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard damaged Saudi Arabian, Emirati, Norwegian, and Japanese oil tankers in separate incidents in May and June, prompting the US and Britain to begin to disrupt Iranian oil traffic in waterways under their control.
