US evidence points to Iran-Iraq launch site for missile attack on Saudi oil facility

(Worthy News) – US officials revealed evidence Sunday that an attack Saturday on a Saudi oil field and refinery did not come from Yemen as originally supposed.

Iran-backed Houthi rebels from the country at the southern tip of the Arabian peninsula initially claimed responsibility for 10 drones that set fire to the facility and halted production, sending oil prices soaring by 20% Monday, but anonymous US officials later presented evidence of a different trajectory.

Photos of the facility showed 19 points of impact by missiles from a west-northwest direction, pointing to a launch site in either Iran or Iraq, an assessment with which the Saudi colonel leading the coalition against the Houthis in Yemen partially agreed.

“The preliminary results show that the weapons are Iranian and we are currently working to determine the location,” Colonel Turki al-Malki told reporters in Riyadh. “The terrorist attack did not originate from Yemen as the Houthi militia claimed.”

On Monday President Trump emphasized that Saudi Arabia would have to shoulder most of the burden for any military reprisal against Iran, which “includes payment,” elaborating that the Sunni Kingdom “understand[s] that fully.”
