Iran blamed for attacks on US security personnel in Iraq

(Worthy News) – Iran is thought to be behind 9 attacks near US forces and personnel in Iraq in recent weeks, the State Department now surmises, with the most recent injuring 6 Iraqi soldiers near an airport in Baghdad Monday.

4 rockets were fired at the airport Monday following 2 at the same location Sunday which houses US diplomats and soldiers.

“Iranian-backed militias are now shelling Iraqi bases with American and anti-ISIS Coalition forces on them – Balad, al-Asad, et cetera,” the State Department’s Assistant Secretary for Near Eastern Affairs David Schenker said Friday, with other officials pointing to the sophistication of the rockets as an indicator of an Iranian origin.

The US now estimates that over 1,000 protestors were killed in Iran beginning with demonstrations over fuel prices that began November 15, which Iran blames on the US and Israel.
