(Worthy News) – Six attacks on Jews over five nights of Hanukkah occurred in New York City this past week, as the city becomes a surprising hotbed for anti-semitism.

On Monday an elderly Orthodox Jewish man was thrown to the ground by a man yelling an anti-Jewish slur and a six-year-old and seven-year-old boy were struck from behind in a hotel lobby in the first of a spate of attacks that the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) said was salt in the wound.

“We are appalled at the sheer frequency and aggressive nature of these incidents,” said Evan Bernstein. “The Jewish community is particularly on edge as it’s reeling from the deadly attack in Jersey City on Dec. 10.”

An attack on a Kosher market in Jersey City by Black Hebrew Israelites less than two weeks ago seemed of a piece with a widespread increase in anti-semitic activity in the New York City area, with the NYPD having reported 166 anti-Jewish hate crimes between January and September.
