White House seeking multi-billion dollar coronavirus stimulus package

(Worthy News) – The White House proposed an $850 billion stimulus package Tuesday for an economy that has been rocked by coronavirus fears, the Trump Administration expecting bipartisan support for a move that may involve sending Americans $1,000 checks.

Vice President Mike Pence, alongside President Donald Trump, said the government was offering states affected by the crisis to send in the US military to establish field hospitals in order to treat an influx of cases, which have reached around 5,200 and caused almost 100 deaths in the US so far.

“It’s like living in a ‘Twilight Zone.’ It’s crazy. Just a week ago things were so different. You can feel the anxiety in the air,” San Francisco resident Rowan Oake told Reuters of the lockdown in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Six counties of the city comprising around 6.7 million people were ordered to stay home until April 7 with the exception of emergencies as New York City and other major hubs closed schools, theaters, bars, and restaurants.
