Bernie Sanders loses Democratic primary, Biden the presumptive nominee

(Worthy News) – Bernie Sanders conceded defeat in the Democratic presidential primary Wednesday, vowing to help presumptive nominee for president Joe Biden forward the progressive agenda from the sidelines.

Sanders lost the 2016 primary contest to Hillary Clinton, but seemed poised to take the nomination six weeks ago after coming out on top in early primaries in New Hampshire and Nevada, Politico reports.

“A majority of the American people now understand that we must raise the minimum wage to at least $15 an hour, that we must guarantee health care as a right,” Sanders claimed in a live-streamed conference call with staff.

Biden congratulated Sanders for having “shifted the fundamental conversation” in the US on several key issues toward socialism by touting “Medicare For All” and suggesting students from families with an income of less than $125,000 receive free college tuition.

The former Vice President adopted the latter promise as part of his own platform recently, shoring up support from moderate Democrats as well and taking 10 of 14 states on Super Tuesday.
