(Worthy News) – According to a Hill-HarrisX poll published on Monday, 74% of adults in America were concerned about losing personal freedoms to COVID-19. The survey also showed that 83% of respondents were concerned about infection from the coronavirus.

The poll was conducted from April 6 to April 7 as many states began to issue stay at home orders, including bans on outdoor socializing and on cinemas, theaters, and other crowd-drawing events, the Washington Examiner reports.

The stay at home orders also included bans on working non-essential jobs, resulting in 43% of poll respondents answering they were worried about losing their jobs altogether. The Washington Examiner reports that over 21 million Americans have registered as unemployed since the pandemic reached the US.

Nevertheless, at the time the poll was taken, more respondents were concerned about catching the virus than about losing jobs or freedoms. The poll was taken with 1,000 registered voters. The margin of error was 3.1 percentage points.

In the weeks since the poll was taken, a number of states have further tightened social distancing measures, causing residents to take to the streets in protest. In Kansas, churches even filed a successful federal lawsuit against Democratic Governor Laura Kelly’s executive order to limit gatherings to 10 people. In Michigan, Democratic Governor Gretchen Whitmer was accused of “pushing too far” with her banning the purchase of car seats and gardening seeds, among other non-essential items.
