Israel enters lockdown ahead of muted Independence Day celebrations
(Worthy News) – The Independence Day celebrations, characterized by barbecues in local parks, have been banned by the Health Ministry. Most local municipalities also canceled the traditional firework shows, deeming it “inappropriate” at the time of the epidemic.
Lockdown allows people to venture 100 meters outside their homes and engage in sporting activities some 500 meters outside their houses. Bathing at the beach is still forbidden.
Police said hundreds of patrols will enforce the health directives and fine anyone violating the lockdown. “We urge the public to comply with health directives and follow police orders to make sure the citizens of Israel remain safe,” said the police’s traffic department.
