Retired African American Police Captain Killed While Checking on a Friend’s Shop During Riots

prayer worthy ministries united states(Worthy News) – Amid nationwide waves of extreme violence and looting that erupted following the May 25 police killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis, 77-year-old retired African American Police Captain David Dorn was fatally shot while checking on Lee’s Pawn Shop and Jewelry, a business that belonged to a friend of his, CBN reported. No arrests have been made.

According to a statement Dorn’s wife gave to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, the former police captain often checked on his friend’s shop when the alarms went off. He was found dead on the sidewalk outside the shop.
In regards to the circumstances in which he died, St Louis County Police Chief Tim Fitch said of Dorn in a tweet: “A true public servant. Protecting & serving all the way to the end.”

In a report, CBN said Dorn was described by a long-standing colleague as “a gregarious and outspoken leader who mentored young people and insisted on strict ethical conduct among his employees.”

Dorn graduated from the police academy in May 1970 and worked in patrol support when he retired from the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department in October 2007. “He was a fun guy, a happy guy,” Fitch said.
“None of us who knew you are surprised you went out fighting at Lee’s Pawn this morning. God speed my friend,” Fitch said.
