(Worthy News) – A Democratic group advising self-declared U.S. President-elect Joe Biden suggests that the new administration will curtail religious freedom. It proposes banning limiting Christian worship and outlawing creationism in education or work, among other measures.

The 28-page document of the Secular Democrats of America PAC is presented to Biden’s administration by Democratic Representatives Jamie Raskin and Jared Huffman — both co-chairs of the Congressional Freethought Caucus.

Biden’s advisers make clear they want to roll back many of President Donald J. Trump’s actions involving religion to “restore a vision of constitutional secularism.”

If adopted, a Biden administration would ban religious organizations from participating in government programs and support governors seeking to close down churches amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The proposed changes also require new disclosures from churches. Additionally, they overturn religious-rights precedents such as the “Hobby Lobby case”. It references a U.S. Supreme Court ruling that a Christian-owned company can claim a religious exemption to a law forcing employers to pay for their workers’ contraception.

Other proposals include banning the mentioning of creationism in education and work for a “deradicalization” of “white Christian nationalism.” The policy document calls the “rise of white Christian nationalism is a national security threat.”

Several evangelical leaders have expressed concerns that a possible Biden administration will oversee persecution of at least some and perhaps many Christian groups in the United States.

However, the Democratic Party group defended its document. It wants to halt an “extraordinarily well-funded and well-organized” phenomenon whose “extreme and sectarian agenda (was) on constant display under the [current] Trump-Pence administration.”
