U.S. Bombers Fly Near Iran Amid Nuclear Standoff

(Worthy News) – The United States sends a warning to Iran on Thursday with two American bomber aircraft flying over a swath of the Middle East, officials confirmed.
The two massive B-52H Stratofortress aircraft capable of carrying nuclear and conventional weapons flew a roughly 36-hour mission after taking off from U.S. soil.
They traveled across the Atlantic Ocean and Europe, then over the Arabian Peninsula and down the Persian Gulf, according to U.S. officials familiar with the situation.
The bombers made a wide loop near Qatar but reportedly stayed a safe distance from Iran’s coastline.
Their mission came amid U.S. concerns about Iran’s suspected nuclear weapons program and Tehran’s military threats toward Israel. Iran has denied the atomic weapon allegations and says its nuclear program is for “peaceful purposes.”
Thursday’s U.S. bombers flight was the second such mission in less than a month. It is part of what Washington calls America’s continuing commitment to the Middle East.
The military flights came despite President Donald J. Trump’s move to withdraw thousands of troops from Iraq and Afghanistan.
