(Worthy News) – The chief executive officer of Facebook says the social media giant has banned U.S. President Donald J. Trump from the platform indefinitely.

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg claimed that “the risks of allowing the President to continue to use our service during this period are simply too great.”

Therefore, Zuckerberg added, “we are extending the block we have placed on his Facebook and Instagram accounts indefinitely.” He said the ban was “for at least the next two weeks until the peaceful transition of power is complete.”

Zuckerberg’s comments came while Twitter was due to restore access to President Trump’s account on Thursday morning.

The decision came twelve hours after the tech giant blocked him for mentioning election fraud and other alleged “falsehoods” as rioters stormed the U.S. Capitol.

The penalty marked the most severe punishment Twitter has ever given to Trump, who has millions of followers.

Twitter was furious about Trump’s ‘tweets’ casting doubts about the 2020 presidential race.

One included a video in which Trump questioned the election outcome after results showed his Democratic rival Joe Biden had won.

Another Trump tweet attributed the violent mob’s actions to allegations that votes had been “stripped away from great patriots.”

Trump and his allies have expressed concern about what they view as growing censorship of conservative content by social media giants.

The president says Congress should repeal a law known as Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act. Trump has been pressuring Congress to strip social media companies of the protections they get under the 24-year-old law. He claims platforms like Twitter and Facebook censor and suppresses conservative speech.
