(Worthy News) – Chinese President Xi Jinping warned Monday that US efforts to isolate China may trigger a “new Cold War,” the Washington Times (WT) reports. President Xi made his remarks during a video speech to the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.

While he did not specifically mention the US in his remarks, Mr. Xi appeared to reference US President Biden’s expressed wish to convene democratic nations that would present a united front against authoritarian regimes like China’s, WT observed.

In his speech President Xi warned that China’s government would treat actions aimed at isolating the country as overtly hostile: the results could be economic division and even armed conflict, Mr. Xi said.

“To build small circles or start a new Cold War, to reject, threaten or intimidate others, to willfully impose decoupling, supply disruptions or sanctions, and to create isolation or estrangement will only push the world into division and even confrontation,” Mr. Xi continued.

“We cannot tackle common challenges in a divided world, and confrontation will lead us to a dead-end,” President Xi added. The misguided approach of antagonism and confrontation, be it in the form of a Cold War, hot war, trade war, or tech war, would eventually hurt all countries’ interests,” he said.
