WASHINGTON (Worthy News)— U.S. Border Patrol agents have detained 11 Iranian citizens who illegally crossed the U.S.-Mexico border, officials said.

The U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) confirmed that its Yuma Sector Border Patrol agents find “five females and six males” from Iran.

Yuma Sector comprises 126 miles (202.8 kilometers) of the international border in the U.S. states of Arizona and California with three stations and three checkpoints.

The Iranians were discovered near San Luis – a city in the southwest corner of Arizona.

This week’s incident happened days after President Joe Biden said he would not “divert” taxpayer dollars to construct a border wall at the U.S.-Mexico border.

It was one of several executive orders Biden signed since his inauguration on January 20, reversing the policies of previous President Donald J. Trump.

In a statement obtained by Worthy News, the CBP said its agents “had led the nation in apprehending illegal crossers from Iran.”

“So far in the fiscal year 2021, Yuma Sector agents have apprehended 14 nationals from Iran,” the CBP added.

The CBP noted that Iran is designated as a ‘Special Interest Country,’ a nation seen as presenting national security concerns for the United States.
