Israel authorities permit reenactment of Passover Temple Service in Jerusalem

(Worthy News) – Israelis authorities on Tuesday permitted a reenactment of the ‘Korban Pesach’ Passover Temple service in Jerusalem, in what supporters say is proof that this previously underground event is increasingly accepted in mainstream society, Israel365 News reports. Tuesday’s reenactment of the Korban Pesach was carried out close to the Shaar HaAshpot Dung Gate near the Temple Mount.

The Temple Service reenactment has been conducted for over 10 years but, until recently, it was considered to be an extremist event intended to incite Muslims, I365 said. Local authorities, therefore, refused to grant permits and the law enforcement sought to block efforts to bring sheep into Jerusalem’s Old City.

However, Korban organizers say public perception has been changing, and the authorities were quite happy for the event to take place this year.

In an interview with I365, Assaf Fried, the spokesman for the Temple Organizations, explained: “The police and the Jerusalem municipality now view this as another totally acceptable public happening, an event they would like to see take place… Even the mainstream media has begun to accept the event as something other than extremist. They are all beginning to accept that the Temple Service is not a crazy idea, that it is an acceptable aspect of modern Israel.”

Moreover, Fried said: “[The] amazing thing is [the authorities] actually refer to in terms of the Temple service,” Fried added. “The reenactments were intended for the Kohanim (Jewish Priests) to practice but it has had a profound effect on the less religious segments of Israel. The officials see that it is run properly, does not lead to incitement, and they are getting used to it.”
