WASHINGTON (Worthy News) – U.S. President Joe Biden signed a $768 billion defense bill amid fears that Russia and China are ahead of the United States in developing new weapons systems such as hypersonic technology.

Biden’s bill, the equivalent of defense budgets by the following 11 nations combined, comes despite allegations that Washington has charged taxpayers for outdated and unwanted arms.

While favored by lobbyists and constituents, the weapons could be defeated in the conflict, according to experts.

Gregory Hayes, chief executive officer of U.S. defense contractor Raytheon Technologies Corporation, told Bloomberg TV that the U.S. is “at least several years behind” China in hypersonic technology.

U. S. military officials confirmed that China recently tested a hypersonic weapon that traveled around the world and hit a target back in China.

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin has boasted about his country’s hypersonic capabilities after showing them off in 2018.

Concerns about missiles with speeds topping 3,800 miles (6,100 kilometers) per hour added to concerns about U.S. capabilities.

Separately China complains to the United Nations that U.S.-based entrepreneur Elon Musk’s Starlink satellites may be creating a danger for its space station.

Two satellites from the U.S. company founded by Musk came close to the station in July and October, forcing astronauts on board to take evasive action, China’s Foreign Ministry said.

The space race raised questioned about East-West tensions in space and on Earth.
