KYIV/BUDAPEST (Worthy News) – Residents in a strategic city of eastern Ukraine faced additional dangers Sunday after the Russian military caused a massive fire at a chemical plant and a British fighter died there, officials said.

Authorities in Severodonetsk described “non-stop” fighting raging in the city, which was attacked by Russian forces causing the blaze.

Regional Governor Serhiy Haidai added that Ukrainian forces remain in control of the burning chemical plant where up to 800 civilians were hiding in underground shelters.

Amid the clashes, former British soldier Jordan Gatley was killed in fighting for the Ukrainian armed forces, his family confirmed.

Gatley, who left the British army in March to fight in Ukraine, died in a fierce battle for Severodonetsk.

His death came as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky asked for more Western weapons amid fears his soldiers were running out of ammunition.

In protest of the war, the U.S. McDonald’s restaurant chain left Moscow, but that did not stop its outlets’ new owners: The first rebranded McDonald’s restaurants have opened in Russia’s capital with a new name that translates as “Tasty and that’s it.”
