URK, NETHERLANDS (Worthy News) – Some 2,000 believers have gathered in the famed Dutch fisher village of Urk to express the hope they say they have in Christ despite their nation’s worst turmoil in years.

Their songs reverberated this week as the Netherlands struggled with escalating farmers’ protests over nitrogen pollution rules and rising food and energy prices. Europe also faced its worst armed conflict in Ukraine since World War Two.

Footage sent to Worthy News showed Christians singing this week about “the New Jerusalem” and the Biblical promises of eternal life and peace for whoever believes. They were joined by Urk’s Christian male choir Soli Deo Gloria dressed in traditional clothes.

The postcard-perfect town of 20,000, known for its traditional fishing community, has more churches and congregations than most other municipalities in Europe.

Previously residents took to the streets to sing or celebrate Easter near closed churches during the coronavirus pandemic.
