U.S. Lawmakers In Taiwan After Visit Speaker Pelosi

TAIPEI (Worthy News) – As China increases its military presence in the region, U.S. lawmakers arrived in Taiwan Sunday, just 12 days after a visit here by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi angered Beijing.
China responded to Pelosi’s tour by sending missiles, warships, and warplanes into the seas and air around Taiwan.
The five-member delegation, led by Democratic Senator Ed Markey of Massachusetts, is in Taiwan on Sunday and Monday, U.S. officials confirmed.
Taiwanese television showed footage of a U.S. government plane landing at about 7 p.m. local time at Songshan Airport in Taipei, the Taiwanese capital.
The visit was likely to create further tensions with China, which claims democratic self-ruled Taiwan as its territory. Beijing objects to the island having any official contact with foreign governments.
Yet, the American delegates were to meet senior Taiwanese leaders, conformed to the de facto U.S. embassy in Taiwan.
They were to discuss issues such as American-Taiwanese relations, regional security, trade, investment, and global supply chains, U.S. officials said.
The visit is part of a wider tour through the Indo-Pacific region, added the U.S. embassy.
