(Worthy News) – The Biden administration announced Tuesday the US will send Ukraine a further $625 million in military aid as Ukrainian forces continue their counteroffensive against Russia’s ongoing invasion and recent purported annexation of parts of Ukraine, the Associated Press reports.

The latest tranche of US aid to Ukraine will include High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS) artillery systems ammunition, and armored vehicles, US President Biden told Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in a call. This will be the first time the US sends HIMARS to Ukraine since July.

Ukrainian forces have used HIMARS in the Kherson region to attack pontoon bridges Russia has used to supply its troops, and to repeatedly target the main bridge across the Dnieper, the longest river in Ukraine, AP said.

“President Biden also affirmed the continued readiness of the United States to impose severe costs on any individual, entity, or country that provides support to Russia’s purported annexation,” the White House said in a statement Tuesday.

In late September, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre attested in a statement: “We will not be deterred from supporting Ukraine, we will continue to stand with the Ukrainian people and provide them with the security assistance they need to defend themselves, for as long as it takes.”
