NEW DELHI (Worthy News) – A jailed leader of more than 30 churches and congregations in northeastern India has been released on bail after International pressure, Worthy News learned Tuesday.

The Christian man, named as “Brother B” for security reasons, is also a program director for a group linked to the Voice Of the Martyrs Canada (VOMC) advocacy organization.

“We are thankful to announce that this believer, who had been imprisoned since mid-October, was released on bail during his hearing on November 28th,” VOMC told Worthy News.

Christians earlier said the trial had been postponed several times and feared Brother B would remain behind bars this Christmas on charges they link to his Christian work in this mainly Hindu nation.

The trial was delayed multiple times, according to family members familiar with the situation. However, police were unable to find any evidence to support the accusations against “Brother B,” they said.

The trial came amid reports of mounting pressure on devoted Christians and Christian leaders in India, the world’s largest Hindu nation.

Officials from 21 countries and human rights groups recently urged India’s government to improve religious freedom within the country.

They raised concerns “over the increase in violence, hate speech and anti-conversion laws that are targeting vulnerable minority groups.”
