JERUSALEM/RIYADH/WASHINGTON (Worthy News) – Saudi Arabia has reportedly asked the United States to help develop its civilian nuclear program in exchange for a peace deal with Israel.

The Wall Street Journal reported Thursday that U.S.-Saudi talks on the arrangement were underway between the two countries, despite opposition from lawmakers in the U.S. Congress.

Striking peace deal between Israel and Saudi Arabia has become a priority for U.S. President Joe Biden and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu amid a looming armed confrontation with Iran over its nuclear program.

Both leaders believe that having regional power Saudi Arabia as an ally could pressure Iran to reconsider further developing its nuclear program.

Tehran claims it seeks the peaceful use of nuclear energy.

However, Israel suspects that Iran is busy developing nuclear weapons.

Additionally, Iran has been accused of providing military aid, such as kamikaze drones, to Russia, which invaded Ukraine over a year ago.

With mounting security uncertainty in the Middle East and elsewhere in the world, the Biden administration is “deeply involved in the complex,” said sources familiar with the talks.
