(Worthy News) – Foiling potentially deadly attacks by the Hamas terror group, Israel recently intercepted a massive shipment of chemicals used to make rocket fuel that was headed to the Gaza Strip from Turkey, the Times of Israel (TOI) reports.

Ruling the Gaza Strip since 2007, Hamas has sworn to destroy Israel and has fired thousands of rockets at Israeli cities from Gaza in recent years.

Israeli customs authorities said officials at the Ashdod port discovered 16 tons of ammonium chloride, a dual-use chemical used in rockets, during an inspection of 54 tons of plaster intended for construction in Gaza in July, TOI reports.

The Defense Ministry said it appeared the chemical was intended to be used for explosives in terror attacks against Israel. “The defense establishment will not allow terror elements to take advantage of the civilian and humanitarian channel in the Gaza Strip for the needs of military force buildup and acts of terror,” the ministry and the Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories said in the statement.

“The Customs Administration at the Tax Authority will continue to act resolutely to thwart the smuggling of dual-use materials and weapons to the Gaza Strip,” the Israeli customs authority said in a statement.
