(Worthy News) – On Wednesday, the Pentagon announced that, for the second time in the past two weeks, U.S. fighter jets carried out airstrikes against Iran-backed militias in eastern Syria. This development has heightened concerns about escalating tensions in the Middle East.

Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said in a statement that President Biden ordered a “self-defense strike” conducted by U.S. F-15s against a weapons storage facility in Syria.

This facility was being used by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and affiliated groups, which have been responsible for a series of recent attacks against American troops stationed in Iraq and Syria, according to the Pentagon.

The Pentagon warned against any escalation in the region and warned that it will continue to conduct missions in Iraq and Syria to protect its troops.

Over the past month, a series of attacks carried out by Iranian-backed militia groups have resulted in injuries to 21 U.S. service members, and tragically, one American contractor passed away due to a cardiac incident while taking shelter.
