(Worthy News) – On Sunday, Texas Governor Greg Abbott (R-TX) announced his intention to sign a new Lone Star State Law that would allow law enforcement officers the ability to arrest individuals who have entered Texas illegally.

The Texas Legislature submitted SB4 to the governor — a bill granting local police the authority to manage immigration enforcement by deeming illegal border crossings from Texas-Mexico as a state misdemeanor.

“Texas is having to step up and do even more to make sure that we deny illegal entry into the state of Texas and as a result … in two weeks I’ll be singing [the] new law,” Gov. Abbott stated during an interview with Fox News.

If approved, the legislation, referred to by state officials as “the strongest border security bill,” would additionally grant judges the authority to mandate the return of immigrants to Mexico.

“That’s why Texas is having to step up and apprehend as many of these people as possible to make sure that they’re not posing a threat to our country, but this is a very serious existential threat to our country caused by Joe Biden,” Abbott said. “And that’s exactly why Texas is taking extraordinary steps to try to crack down on it.”

Last week, the Texas Governor transported approximately 70,000 immigrants to cities under Democratic leadership nationwide. This included more than 12,500 migrants to Washington D.C., 25,000 to New York City, 20,000 to Chicago, 3,200 to Philadelphia, 7,400 to Denver, and over 1,000 to Los Angeles.

Since President Biden assumed office in 2021, the immigrant population has surged by 4.5 million, roughly equivalent to the entire population of states such as Oregon or Oklahoma.
