WASHINGTON/JERUSALEM (Worthy News) – The United States and Britain launched strikes against 36 targets in Yemen on Saturday, in the second day of major U.S. air assaults against Iran-linked groups after a deadly attack on U.S. troops in Jordan, officials said.

Last weekend’s attack against the U.S. military killed three American soldiers and injured some 30 others.

Saturday’s strikes came amid mounting fears of a broader armed conflict in the Middle East involving several nations.

The Houthi rebels in Yemen, which are backed by Iran, launched a series of attacks on Israel as well as commercial and military ships in the Red Sea – leading to the U.S. and Britain launching targeted attacks.

A statement from the two countries and six allies said the “precision strikes” were “intended to disrupt and degrade the capabilities that the Houthis use to threaten global trade and the lives of innocent mariners.”

The strikes hit “36 Huthi targets across 13 locations in Yemen in response to the Huthis’ continued attacks against international and commercial shipping as well as naval vessels transiting the Red Sea,” they added.

Additionally, the U.S. launched airstrikes on Iran’s Revolutionary Guard (IRGC) and its affiliates as retaliation for the three American soldiers’ deaths.

Saturday’s strikes came amid mounting fears of a broader armed conflict in the Middle East.

Following the attacks, the Houthis warned that “Our military operations against the Zionist entity,” referring to Israel, “will continue until the aggression against Gaza stops, no matter what sacrifices it demands from us.”

A Houthi spokesperson added: “We will meet escalation with escalation.”
