U.S. Informs Iran It “Had No Involvement” in Israeli Strike in Damascus

(Worthy News) – A U.S. official stated that the United States informed Iran it “had no involvement” and lacked prior knowledge of an Israeli attack on a diplomatic facility in Syria, which resulted in the death of a high-ranking Iranian general, Axios reported on Tuesday.

On Monday, an Israeli airstrike near the Iranian embassy in Damascus on Monday claimed the lives of at least six people, including Mohammed Reza Zahedi, a general in the Quds Force of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), who oversaw operations in Lebanon and Syria.

A U.S. official told Axios that the United States informed Iran it “had no involvement” and lacked prior knowledge of an Israeli attack on a diplomatic facility in Syria.

Israeli and U.S. officials reported that Israel informed the Biden administration shortly before launching its air strike without seeking U.S. approval. A U.S. official noted that a brief Israeli notification had come as military jets were already airborne. However, Axios reported that Israel did not detail the specifics, such as the target being a building within the Iranian embassy compound.

U.S. and Israeli officials expect an escalation in hostilities in the region between Israel and Iranian-backed terrorist groups.
