(Worthy News) – With only 2% of the world’s 70 million Deaf people following Jesus, the US-based DOOR International ministry is looking to harness artificial intelligence (AI) technology to help share the Gospel with those who cannot hear it, Christian Daily International (CDI) reports.

DOOR International is a Christian organization based in Michigan; the ministry works with Deaf believers to translate the Bible, plant churches, and train leaders in over 85 sign languages.

In an effort to appeal to a broader Deaf audience, DOOR International is conducting trials to see whether AI can be used to create artwork for sign language Bible translations, CDI reports.

“As hearing people, one of the most effective things that we can do is bring information and bring possibilities into the Deaf space,” President of DOOR International Robert Myers explained in an interview with Mission Network News. “Then [we can] help Deaf people bridge that gap, and then allow them to begin to dream and figure out what would be most effective in their environments.”

“Most of the global church is completely unaware that Deaf communities are unreached with the Gospel. And that these tools would be helpful in these spaces,” Myers added.

“So sharing this kind of information across social media platforms really helps to raise the awareness of the global church and helps them to understand begin to pray for Deaf communities. Even in their own areas, that God would raise up Deaf leaders to reach their own communities with the Gospel.”
