(Worthy News) – Christian aid groups have rallied to support the victims of the devastating Hurricane Helene which made landfall in Florida’s Big Bend region on Thursday before tearing through North and South Carolina, Georgia, Virginia, and Tennessee.

The Category 4 hurricane has left hundreds of people unaccounted for, dozens dead, millions without power and billions of dollars worth of destruction.

Major US Christian aid organizations Samaritan’s Purse and The Salvation Army were among the first on the frontlines of delivering disaster relief, the Christian Post (CP) reports.

Samaritan’s Purse set up bases in Perry, Florida, where the hurricane first made landfall, and in Valdosta, Georgia, and the High Country of North Carolina.

The Salvation Army immediately deployed 10 mobile feeding units and put an additional 35 on standby. These units are serving up to 1,500 meals per day to those affected in Georgia, the organization told CP.

The Convoy of Hope Christian group launched a drive-thru distribution of groceries, water and hygiene kits in Perry, Florida.

“In times of crisis, we stand united with communities facing hardship,” Kenneth G. Hodder, national commander of The Salvation Army, said in a statement.
