Trump Administration Moves to Block Gender Ideology in California’s Federally Funded Sex Ed Program

(Worthy News) – The Trump administration has issued a firm ultimatum to California: strip all references to gender ideology from its federally funded sex education program for at-risk youth or risk losing millions in federal funding. The Administration for Children and Families (ACF) delivered the notice on Friday, giving the state 60 days to comply.
At issue is California’s Personal Responsibility Education Program (PREP), which was created to teach abstinence, contraception, and prevention of sexually transmitted diseases like HIV/AIDS. But under state officials, PREP strayed far from its intended mission, using taxpayer dollars to push radical gender ideology on vulnerable children.
“The Trump administration will not tolerate the use of federal funds for programs that indoctrinate our children,” said ACF Acting Assistant Secretary Andrew Gradison. “The disturbing gender ideology content in California’s PREP materials is both unacceptable and well outside the program’s core purpose. Parents deserve transparency and accountability when it comes to what their kids are being taught.”
Among the inappropriate materials flagged by ACF were lessons for middle school students introducing transgenderism and non-binary identities, and high school lessons explaining “social transitioning” and irreversible “medical transitioning”–topics far removed from PREP’s legal purpose. Teacher training materials encouraged instructors to use loaded terms like “cisgender” while promoting fringe gender theories.
ACF noted that while the Obama-era approval of these materials was a mistake, the current administration is acting decisively to bring the program back in line with its authorizing statute. That law focuses strictly on teaching youth how to avoid pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections–not how to reject biological reality.
“The statute neither requires, supports nor authorizes teaching students that gender identity is distinct from biological sex or that boys can identify as girls and vice versa,” ACF wrote in its letter to California.
Incredibly, the Newsom administration claimed it first learned of the federal order through media reports, not official channels. “This is NOT California’s K-12 sex education curriculum,” insisted a spokesperson for the governor, as if that changes the fact that federal dollars are being misused to promote gender confusion among minors.
If California refuses to comply, ACF made clear that the federal government has every right to withhold, suspend, or terminate the state’s PREP funding. The administration’s stand is a clear victory for those who believe taxpayer money should not be used to undermine parental rights and biological science.
