(Worthy News) – A bipartisan group of lawmakers in the U.S. House of Representatives introduced new legislation this week that would grant President Donald Trump the authority to provide Israel with access to B-2 stealth bombers and bunker-busting bombs, should Iran resume efforts to develop nuclear weapons.

The proposed bill–officially titled the Bunker-Buster Act–was introduced by Rep. Josh Gottheimer (D-NJ) and Rep. Mike Lawler (R-NY), and is being described as a preemptive measure to bolster Israeli deterrence and ensure Tehran does not rebuild its underground nuclear infrastructure.

“This bill gives the president the authority to equip Israel with the tools and training they need to deter Tehran and make the world a safer place,” Lawler said in a statement. Gottheimer added, “Iran, the leading state sponsor of terror, and one of America’s top enemies, can never have a nuclear weapon. That’s why I strongly supported our military actions earlier this month.”

The bill emphasizes that any deployment of B-2 bombers or precision-guided munitions would be temporary and contingent on certification from the President that it is both necessary for U.S. national security and that Israel has no other viable means of neutralizing Iran’s nuclear facilities. It would not transfer ownership or permanent control of the aircraft to Israel.

The legislation follows the recent U.S. airstrikes under Operation Midnight Hammer, in which B-2 bombers targeted Iran’s primary nuclear sites at Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan. President Trump later declared the facilities “obliterated,” framing the strikes as the destruction of “the core of Tehran’s nuclear infrastructure.”

The United States has never before authorized the transfer or use of B-2 bombers by a foreign ally. As of 2024, the U.S. Air Force maintains 24 active B-2 aircraft, making them one of the most advanced and limited assets in America’s strategic arsenal.

Reaction to both the bill and the recent U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran has been divided. Some Democrats voiced concern over the potential escalation. Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), the ranking member on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, said the strikes could “invite counterattacks” and endanger U.S. personnel abroad.

Others, like Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL), backed the move: “If Israel’s strikes set back Iran’s nuclear program, we’ll all be safer.” Speaker of the House Mike Johnson echoed that view, stating, “Israel IS right — and has a right — to defend itself!”

Hardline conservative Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) expressed skepticism about foreign entanglements, saying, “The American people aren’t interested in foreign wars,” while offering prayers for peace.

The bill is currently awaiting approval in the House Armed Services and Foreign Affairs Committees. If passed, it would mark a new level of military cooperation between the U.S. and Israel in response to the ongoing threat posed by Iran’s nuclear ambitions.
