JERUSALEM by (Worthy News) – Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Monday that Israel is confronting a “war on multiple fronts” after two Palestinian gunmen opened fire at a bus stop in northern Jerusalem, killing six people and injuring more than 20 others.

Netanyahu visited the Ramot Junction scene in Israel’s capital, praising the swift actions of an Israeli soldier and an armed civilian who “neutralized” the attackers in what authorities called a “terror attack.”

“We are in a war on several fronts. I want to commend the swift and determined action that prevented an even bigger tragedy,” Netanyahu stressed.

Police said the attackers arrived by car and opened fire on civilians waiting at the bus stop. A security officer and a civilian returned fire, killing the assailants, officials said.

Four of the victims were identified as Yaakov Pinto, 25, Rabbi Levi Yitzhak Pash, Israel Mentzer, 28, and Yosef David, 43. Pinto reportedly immigrated from Spain and was recently married. Israeli sources said that Pash taught at a Jerusalem yeshiva, while Mentzer and David were residents of the Ramot neighborhood.

Two additional wounded people were later declared dead, including a woman in her fifties who was brought to Shaare Zedek Medical Center, authorities explained.

VERY SEVERE SCENE

In total, at least 21 people were wounded at the scene and transported to three hospitals, including Shaare Zedek Medical Center and the Hadassah-University Medical Centers at Ein Kerem and Mount Scopus, officials added.

Paramedic Fadi Dekaidek described the site as “a very severe scene,” with several victims lying unconscious on the road and sidewalk.

Israeli security forces immediately sealed off the area and launched searches in Jerusalem and the West Bank town of Ramallah for accomplices. M16 rifles, ammunition, and a knife were recovered from the scene.

The attack, one of the deadliest in Jerusalem in nearly a year, comes amid heightened tensions following months of fighting in Gaza and frequent clashes in the West Bank.

Hamas and Islamic Jihad, designated as terrorist organizations by Israel and most of its allies, praised the shooting. Hamas called it a “heroic operation”, though neither group formally claimed responsibility.

The attack comes nearly two years after Hamas carried out the October 7, 2023, massacre in which about 1,200 people were killed in southern Israel, sparking the ongoing war in Gaza.

CHAOS ON CAMERA

It also follows other recent incidents, including a deadly Tel Aviv shooting in October 2024 and another Jerusalem bus-stop shooting in November 2023.

Footage of Monday’s shootings obtained by Worthy News showed terrified commuters running into traffic as gunfire erupted, with buses riddled with bullet holes and first responders rushing to the scene.

Ester Lugasi, injured in the violence, told Israeli television: “Suddenly I hear the shots starting … I felt like I was running for an eternity. I thought I was going to die.”

The United States condemned the shooting as “a brutal act of terrorism against civilians.”

European Union officials also expressed solidarity with Israel while “urging restraint” to avoid further escalation.

This was the deadliest single shooting in Jerusalem since early 2024, underscoring what Netanyahu described as Israel’s struggle against “terrorism supported by Iran and its proxies.”
