Much Of World Mourns Charlie Kirk As Widow Vows To Continue His Christian Legacy

PHOENIX, ARIZONA/BUDAPEST (Worthy News) – Much of the world is mourning after the assassination of Charlie Kirk, the born-again Christian conservative leader, who inspired his generation and whose widow praised him as a loving husband with a deep faith in Jesus Christ.

Erika Kirk, 36, at times fighting back tears, spoke in a live-streamed address from her husband’s podcast studio at his Turning Point USA movement’s headquarters in Arizona after briefly praying, “Jesus, fill this room.”

In her first public remarks since the deadly shooting in the U.S. state of Utah, she recalled his devotion to family, faith, and country.

“My husband laid down his life for me, for our nation, for our children,” she said. Apparently addressing the attacker and others she accused of fueling hatred, she added: “The cries of this widow will echo around the world like a battle cry. You have no idea the fire that you have ignited within this wife.”

She pledged that “the movement my husband built will not die,” and promised: “I will never let your legacy die, baby. I won’t, I promise. His wisdom will endure.”

She recalled that her three-year-old daughter asked where daddy was. “I told her he is on a working trip for Jesus.”

Erika Kirk confirmed that “AmericaFest conference in December would be held as scheduled … the campus tour will continue … as will his radio and podcast show.” She also thanked U.S. President Donald J. Trump, Vice President JD Vance and his wife Usha, as well as first responders and law enforcement for their support.

RETURNING HOME

Vice President Vance and his wife personally accompanied her when Kirk’s human remains were flown on Air Force Two from Utah to Phoenix, Arizona. The casket was then transferred to Hansen Mortuary Chapel, where family and supporters gathered to pay respects.

They recalled that Kirk, 31, was best known internationally as the co-founder of Turning Point USA, a conservative youth organization established in 2012.

The group has been influential on U.S. college campuses and within Republican politics, promoting Christian values, free markets, and limited government. Its conferences, media outlets, and student chapters have become central to conservative activism among young Americans.

Leaders around the world joined in mourning Kirk, who was fatally shot September 10 while addressing students at Utah Valley University.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu praised him as a “once-in-a-generation figure … murdered for speaking truth and defending freedom. A lion-hearted friend of Israel, he fought the lies and stood tall for Judeo-Christian civilization.”

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán charged that “Charlie Kirk’s death is the result of the international hate campaign waged by the progressive-liberal left … Yesterday, we lost a true defender of faith and freedom.”

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni called the killing “an atrocious murder, a deep wound for democracy and for those who believe in freedom.” British Prime Minister Keir Starmer noted: “It is heartbreaking that a young family has been robbed of a father and a husband … We must all be free to debate openly and freely without fear – there can be no justification for political violence.”

VIGILS WORLDWIDE

Ordinary people also mourned with vigils being held across the United States and in cities worldwide.

In Sydney, Australia, thousands gathered in Hyde Park, lighting candles and singing “Amazing Grace.”

In London, mourners laid flowers outside the U.S. Embassy. In Cape Town, South Africa, young Christians spoke of Kirk’s influence on their faith and values.

In Madrid, Spain, crowds assembled outside the U.S. Embassy chanting: “Viva Charlie Kirk” (“Long live Charlie Kirk”), “Viva la libertad” (“Long live freedom”), “No nos callarán” (“They will not silence us”), “Viva España” (“Long live Spain”), and “Viva Estados Unidos” (“Long live the United States”).

Organizers described the tribute as “a cry against political violence and a call to defend the right to dissent without fear.”

In Berlin, Germany, candles and flowers were placed outside the U.S. Embassy, where participants prayed the Lord’s Prayer together, led by local Christian politicians.

At these gatherings, mourners echoed Erika Kirk’s vow that her husband’s faith-driven mission would continue despite his death.

LEFTIES CELEBRATING

Yet the mourning was also overshadowed by controversy. On social media, some left-leaning commentators celebrated Kirk’s death.

At U.S. broadcaster MSNBC, political analyst Matthew Dowd was fired after suggesting in live coverage that Kirk’s rhetoric contributed to an environment of hate. MSNBC President Rebecca Kutler called his remarks “inappropriate, insensitive and unacceptable.” Dowd later apologized, saying he did not intend to blame Kirk for his own death.

In the U.S. Congress, a moment of silence was held for Kirk, but partisan tensions followed when Republican lawmakers called for an audible prayer, while some Democrats objected and urged action on gun laws instead.

In the European Parliament, Swedish MEP Charlie Weimers (ECR group) requested a one-minute silence for Kirk, but the request was denied by Vice-President Katarina Barley on procedural grounds, saying it had not been submitted before the opening of the plenary session.

Despite these divisions, Christians at vigils said they would forgive, following the example of Charlie Kirk, who often urged his audiences to turn to Christ’s grace.

Kirk was assassinated on September 10, 2025, while speaking at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah, during his “American Comeback Tour.” According to witnesses and video, he had just begun taking questions from students when he was struck in the neck by a gunshot.

Authorities identified the suspect as Tyler James Robinson, 22, of Utah, who surrendered after his father and a youth pastor persuaded him to turn himself in. He is being held without bail on charges including aggravated murder, obstruction of justice, and firearms offenses.
