LONDON (Worthy News) – More than 100,000 people packed into central London on Saturday for what organizers billed as the largest free speech rally in British history. The “Unite the Kingdom” march, spearheaded by activist Tommy Robinson, featured a live video appearance by billionaire Elon Musk and a tribute to slain U.S. conservative activist Charlie Kirk.
The Metropolitan Police estimated about 110,000 participants crowded into Whitehall, though Robinson and his supporters claimed numbers in the millions. Aerial shots showed waves of demonstrators carrying the St. George’s Cross, Union Jacks, Scottish saltires, and Welsh dragons. Some carried wooden crosses bearing the name of Christ while singing Christian hymns.
Charlie Kirk Honored
The rally included an emotional tribute to Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk, who was assassinated last week during a university event in Utah. Organizers played a video montage of Kirk’s speeches, including a viral clip of him giving life advice to a 13-year-old girl. Many marchers carried signs and banners with his picture, with chants of “Charlie! Charlie!” erupting through the crowd.
“In honor of Charlie Kirk and in honor of freedom, on the 13th we march,” Robinson said earlier in the week. Addressing the gathering on Saturday, he called Kirk “a man who inspired a generation of young men based on courage and based on faith.”
Musk: “Britain at a Fork in the Road”
Joining by live link, Musk condemned left-wing violence and Kirk’s killing. “You see how much violence there is on the left, with our friend Charlie Kirk getting murdered in cold blood this week, and people on the left celebrating it openly,” he said.
Musk warned Britain was facing “a rapidly increasing erosion” of its national identity due to uncontrolled migration. “Britain is at a fork in the road — to darkness or greatness — and that will be decided only in a matter of years,” he told the crowd. He also accused mainstream media, particularly the BBC, of complicity in “the destruction of Britain.”
Counter-Protests and Police Clashes
On the opposite side of Whitehall, Stand Up To Racism (SUTR) staged a counter-demonstration dubbed “March Against Fascism,” drawing about 5,000 participants. Police set up barriers and a sterile buffer zone to prevent confrontations between the groups.
More than 1,600 officers, including 500 brought in from other forces, were deployed across the city, with strict conditions imposed under the Public Order Act.
Background and Growing Movement
Robinson, born Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, rose to prominence as co-founder of the English Defence League in 2009, though he severed ties in 2013. Once best known for his anti-Islam stance, he has increasingly framed his activism around free speech and opposition to mass migration.
The London march followed the “Raise the Colours” movement, which saw Union Jacks and St. George’s Crosses hoisted across England in recent weeks. Robinson declared online after Saturday’s rally that “the revolution is on.”
Despite the day’s tensions, Robinson praised the turnout as proof that “the British public are ready to fight back.”
