(Worthy News) – Iran has announced the reopening of the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz following a temporary ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon, prompting a strong response from global markets and cautious optimism from world leaders.

U.S. President Donald Trump confirmed the development Friday, stating on social media, “Iran has just announced that the Strait of Iran is fully open and ready for full passage.” However, the president made clear that the U.S. naval blockade targeting Iranian ports will remain in place until a comprehensive agreement with Tehran is finalized.

Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi declared that all commercial vessels would be permitted to transit the waterway during the duration of the ceasefire, though ships must follow routes coordinated by Iranian maritime authorities. The requirement for controlled passage has raised concerns that naval mines remain in the region.

Reports indicate that the Strait — through which roughly 20% of the world’s oil supply flows — was mined in a decentralized and “haphazard” manner during the recent conflict. U.S. intelligence officials have expressed doubt that Iran has the capability to fully clear the mines, noting that even Iranian forces may not know their exact locations.

Despite these risks, financial markets reacted swiftly. Oil prices plunged more than 10%, with Brent crude falling below $90 per barrel, while Dow futures surged by over 500 points on hopes of de-escalation in the region.

The reopening follows a 10-day ceasefire agreement between Israel and Lebanon, aimed at halting fighting between Israeli forces and the Iran-backed Hezbollah terrorist group. The ceasefire has become a key stepping stone in broader negotiations between the United States and Iran, which have been ongoing but fragile.

Tensions had persisted after Iran accused the U.S. of violating a prior agreement by allowing continued Israeli military operations in Lebanon. Previous negotiations, including talks involving Vice President JD Vance, failed to produce a lasting resolution, though further discussions are expected.

While the Strait’s reopening signals a potential turning point, uncertainty remains high. Limited vessel traffic continues, and the presence of mines poses ongoing risks to global shipping and energy stability.

From a broader perspective, developments surrounding the Middle East’s critical trade routes continue to draw attention from prophetic observers. The region has long stood at the crossroads of global conflict and biblical history, and shifting alliances, wars, and temporary peace agreements often point to a larger unfolding narrative. Scripture reminds us that even in times of turmoil, God’s purposes are not shaken, and ultimately, His plan for peace and restoration will prevail.
