(Worthy News) – More than $2 trillion in wealth has migrated from Democrat-led states to Republican-led states over the past decade, according to a new economic analysis released by the conservative group Committee to Unleash Prosperity, highlighting a major population and financial shift reshaping the American economy.

The report, titled “Red States vs. Blue States: Where the Money Went,” examined Internal Revenue Service migration data from 2012 through 2023 and tracked adjusted gross income tied to Americans relocating between states.

According to the findings, states won by President Donald Trump in the 2024 election gained a combined $2.199 trillion in adjusted gross income from inbound migration during the 11-year period. Meanwhile, states won by Vice President Kamala Harris recorded a combined loss of $1.960 trillion.

The organization said the trend reflects Americans increasingly leaving high-tax, heavily regulated states in favor of lower-tax, business-friendly states.

“It’s a constant theme of ours at UP: blue state residents moving to red states and taking their money and businesses with them,” the group said in a statement accompanying the report. “The numbers get bigger every year.”

The report described the migration of wealth as economically historic, noting the amount transferred exceeds the annual gross domestic product of many nations.

Florida posted the largest gain among Republican-led states, adding approximately $1.293 trillion in adjusted gross income linked to migration. Texas followed with gains of $371 billion, while Arizona added $203 billion.

Additional gains were seen in South Carolina and North Carolina, which each gained roughly $187 billion. Nevada added $150 billion, while Tennessee and Idaho also experienced significant growth.

The report concluded that “nearly every blue state has lost income due to moving vans and nearly every red state has been a winner.”

Among Democrat-leaning states, Colorado recorded the strongest gain at $127 billion, followed by Washington at $119 billion and Oregon at $60.8 billion.

However, several traditionally Democratic strongholds posted steep losses. New York recorded the largest decline overall at $660 billion, followed by California at $503 billion and Illinois at $399 billion.

New Jersey lost $212 billion, while Maryland and Massachusetts each saw losses exceeding $100 billion.

Not all Republican-won states posted gains. Pennsylvania and Ohio both experienced net losses in adjusted gross income during the migration period.

The findings are expected to fuel continued debate over taxation, cost of living, regulation, and economic opportunity as Americans increasingly relocate in search of affordability, freedom, and stronger financial prospects.
