(Worthy News) – Pakistan has deployed about 8,000 troops, a squadron of fighter jets, drones, and an air defense system to Saudi Arabia under a confidential mutual defense pact, according to an exclusive Reuters report.

The deployment reportedly includes roughly 16 JF-17 fighter jets, two drone squadrons, and a Chinese-made HQ-9 air defense system. Reuters said three security officials and two government sources confirmed the scale of the force, describing it as combat-capable and far more than a symbolic mission.

Saudi Arabia is reportedly financing the deployment, while Pakistani personnel operate the equipment. Pakistan’s military and foreign office, along with Saudi Arabia’s government media office, did not respond to Reuters’ requests for comment.

The defense pact, signed last year, requires Pakistan and Saudi Arabia to come to each other’s defense if attacked. One government source told Reuters the confidential agreement could allow as many as 80,000 Pakistani troops to be deployed to help secure the kingdom’s borders.

The move comes as Islamabad plays the role of chief mediator in the Iran war, having helped broker a ceasefire between Washington and Tehran that has held for six weeks. Pakistan has also hosted the only round of U.S.-Iran peace talks so far.

The deployment underscores the deepening military alliance between Islamabad and Riyadh — and Pakistan’s delicate balancing act as both Saudi security partner and regional mediator.
