(Worthy News) – The House of Representatives advanced a $72 billion border security funding bill Tuesday, moving President Donald Trump’s immigration enforcement agenda one step closer to becoming law.

The measure, which funds Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Border Patrol through Jan. 20, 2029, cleared a key procedural vote by a narrow 212–211 margin. A final House vote was expected later Tuesday. If approved, the legislation would head to Trump’s desk for his signature.

The bill previously passed the Senate in the early hours of June 5 through the reconciliation process, allowing Republicans to bypass the 60-vote filibuster threshold. All Senate Republicans supported the measure except Sen. Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, while Democrats opposed it. Sen. Michael Bennet of Colorado was absent.

The package had been delayed by Republican concerns over a proposed $1.8 billion compensation fund for individuals claiming harm from federal government actions. Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche announced June 2 that the administration would discontinue the program, helping clear the way for GOP support.

Revised Senate language later removed both the compensation fund and $1 billion that had been allocated for a White House ballroom project and security improvements.

During the Senate’s extended amendment process, lawmakers rejected several Democratic and Republican proposals aimed at permanently blocking the so-called Anti-Weaponization Fund or restricting taxpayer dollars connected to Jan. 6-related claims.

Republicans framed the bill as a major investment in border security and immigration enforcement, while Democrats opposed the package amid broader objections to the Trump administration’s immigration policies.
