India: Hindu Assault Empties Entire Christian Village

By Joseph DeCaro, Worthy News Correspondent

(Worthy News)– Christians have all fled their village in northeast India after a brutal April attack.

According to Morning Star News, a mob of about 100 Hindus armed with swords, sticks and stones attacked Christians following an evening service in Amtola village in Assam State, injuring at least 15 worshippers.

After the assault, Christian homes were looted and/or razed to the ground; church leaders said there were no Christians left in Amtola after they fled with nothing left to return to.

Police arrived only after the mob had finished its wanton destruction; no action was taken against the Hindus or their leaders who brutally beat women and children.

The Rev. Vijayesh Lal of India’s Religious Liberty Commission said the viciousness of the mob was shocking.

“The way children have been beaten up mercilessly shows the extent of hate created by external elements. We have written to the chief minister of Assam, appealing to him for intervention in the case.”

Although the EFI documented four incidents of persecution against the Christian community last year, Lal said the violence of this latest attack surpassed them all.

Christians comprise almost four percent of the population of Assam.
