Manara Ministries of Jordan Reaches Out to the Christians of Iraq with Food and Literature
By Dan Wooding

AMMAN, JORDAN (November 2, 2000) – Responding to a critical situation for the Christians of Iraq, Manara Ministries of Amman, Jordan, has begun reaching out to their brothers and sisters there with much-needed aid.

A spokesman for Manara — it means Lighthouse — Ministries, which began 21 years ago, described the living situation in as the “the worst it has ever been.” He went on, “Men, women, and children are literally starving, as they have no work, no income, and no food. Medical assistance is lacking, and the infrastructure is falling apart at the seams.”

He added, “In view of this situation, the Lord placed a burden on Manara’s heart to reach out to the church and peoples of Iraq to send Christian literature to meet the spiritual needs of many of the believers. We have also been challenged to purchase food and help meet the basic food needs of some 2000 families per month.”

The spokesman said that recently, Manara Ministries sent a staff member to deliver “an enormous amount of books and commentaries to believers in Iraq.”

He went on, “We hand-delivered over 16 tons of literature – 83,000 copies of children books, commentaries, and other important Christian living tools to the believers in Iraq! We have been fortunate to purchase bread, tea, and other basic foods to help these 2000 families survive through these most difficult times. We are praying that the Lord will use these tools to strengthen His people and build His church throughout the nation of Iraq.

“We would like to ask you to pray for the outreach to Iraq. It seems in the most difficult times, people are really open and receptive to hearing the gospel. We need your help to see that the literature distribution and relief work continues.

“We would like to challenge you, our friend, to help us meet the needs of the Iraqi people with a gift to help cover the expenses. With your help, and with our Lord’s grace, we can continue to touch their hearts and have an eternal impact on the lives of so many.”
