Report: Hamas agrees to halt terrorist attacks from West Bank

(Worthy News) – As part of the intra-Palestinian reconciliation, Hamas has pledged not to perpetrate terrorist attacks from Judea and Samaria, the London-based pan-Arab daily Asharq Al-Awsat reported on Sunday.

Hamas and Fatah signed a deal on Thursday aimed at ending the 10-year rift between the two Palestinian factions. Under the deal, signed in Cairo, the PA would get administrative powers over the Gaza Strip. But the two sides have yet to resolve their differences over Hamas security forces and its arms in the coastal enclave. With Hamas vowing not to give up its “armed resistance” against Israel, the Palestinian Authority may ultimately not be able to reassert full control over the Gaza Strip. This could complicate the deal’s implementation and may put it at risk of unraveling.

According to the report on Sunday, Hamas has agreed to extend the truce it currently maintains with Israel in the Gaza Strip to the West Bank. A senior Hamas official told the paper that “there is an implicit understanding in the agreement that the truce will include Judea and Samaria, we want to give this reconciliation deal a chance and we are going to make sure Hamas is committed to a real partnership, even if the harassment and the arrests continue, and even if no prisoners are released.” [ Source: Israel Hayom (Read More…) ]
