(Worthy News) – Democrats in the House of Representatives voted to impeach President Trump Wednesday night, slating him for a trial in the Republican-controlled Senate in January in which he is expected to be cleared of the charges.

The House voted 233 to 197 along party lines to put Trump among Andrew Johnson and Bill Clinton, the only other American Presidents to be impeached.

“Today marks the culmination in the House of one of the most shameful political episodes in the history of our Nation,” a statement from White House Press Secretary Stephanie Grisham read following the decision. “Without receiving a single Republican vote, and without providing any proof of wrongdoing, Democrats pushed illegitimate articles of impeachment against the President through the House of Representatives.”

Grisham went on to say that the President is “confident that he will be fully exonerated” when the Senate’s Republican majority adjudicates the trial in January.
