(Worthy News) – Islamic militants allied with ISIS attacked Christian villages in the Democratic Republic of Congo on Tuesday, Jan. 28, killing 36 people as part of their declared intention to create a caliphate in North and South Kivu provinces.

The Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) that began in Uganda in the 1990s and recently pledged allegiance to the Islamic State attacked Eringeti, Manzingi, and two other unnamed villages, forcing residents to flee and killing an Anglican pastor.

Pastor Gilbert Kambale who heads the Beni civil society organization in the region of DRC where the Islamic militants are based asked the international community to pray God rids the majority Christian nation of the Islamic invasion, expressing confidence that “even as the night is long, day will surely dawn.”

Though DRC is “one of the most Christianized countries in the world,” according to Open Doors USA, attacks by Islamists have killed 250 mostly Christian people in the last three months alone.
