(Worthy News) – The Governor of Tennessee expressed full support for holding drive-in church services during the COVID-19 pandemic by attending such a service himself, Christian Headlines reports. At a time when state and local leaders have grappled with whether to allow drive-in services, Gov. Bill Lee attended a multi-church “Beyond Our Walls” worship service on Sunday evening.

Congregants of over 15 churches drove into the parking lot at Williamson County Ag Expo Park to join what organizers said was to be “a safe, sensible, public, multi-church, drive-in prayer and worship service.” Participants were instructed to stay in their cars, where they prayed, sang and listened to musicians and speakers, Christian Headlines said.

One of the speakers was Governor Lee, who thanked participants for everything they were doing from the stage: “Thank you for doing your part to stay apart. Thank you for loving your neighbors as yourself. Thank you for serving in food banks. Thank you for serving in non-profits, and thank you for serving in your neighborhood,” he said. Lee also thanked frontline workers for “putting [their] lives on the line.”

Moreover, after thanking attendees for their prayers for him and his wife, for other national leaders, for the sick and for those who have lost loved ones, the Governor quoted from Scripture saying: “In this world, we’ll have many troubles, but we know where our hope comes from, and He has overcome the world”(John 16:33). In response, Christian Headlines reports, participants across the parking lot honked their horns in appreciation.

The event was broadcast by local Christian radio station Way-FM (88.7) and proceeds went to One Generation Away, an organization that distributes healthy food to families throughout Middle Tennessee.
